Chris Opie joins the Pathways Team

Craig here.
Hey - Chris has joined the team here at Pathways in the role of Ministry Internship Coordinator (MIC).
He has replaced Andrew Cox who has gone to Pastor at Eden Community Church in Auckland.

I asked Chris for a couple of thoughts on moving from being worship director at the awesome 'Street City church' in Wellington to MIC here at Pathways.

Chris:
"Its been a big change for our family as we have tried to discover the next step God has for us as He speaks with his quiet voice the words "change is coming". When do you know you are in God will? What do I do when God speaks a word of "change" in my life? This is the journey that we have been in moving from the cultural capital of Wellington up to the massive city of Auckland.

For the last 6 or so year I have worked as a Worship Pastor at The Street City Church in Wellington where i was overseeing around 60 people involved with music teams. During this time i was constantly asked in my Pastoral role "What is Gods will for my Life." After alot of thinking and praying for myself all i could come to was Roman 12 where it talks of us living as an "act" of worship and through this then we are able to "test and approve" Gods perfect will for our lives. At the end of last year when my wife and I believed we heard God call us to change, these verses became a cornerstone to our existence. This resulted in a dramatic change in my career, through many "God" moments (huge story but too long to tell here) from being a Worship Pastor to coming to work here at Pathways as the new Internship Co-ordinator. A role that i never thought would have been in my future yet it unlocks so many passions of mine like Equipping other, Studying more of Gods words and seeing the Body of Christ in NZ totally pumped up to live a life of worship, daily for Him.

You can never imagine the plans God has for you, and to find His will for you life is living Daily as an act of worship to Him. This now makes total sense to me as i read Roman 12, giving my all to Jesus for His Glory and in this act seeing Gods will alive in my life.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2

Life is a constant battle of questions that hopefully end with the answers honoring Jesus!
